The NYSSRS works all year long to advocate for the profession. We meet regularly with the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Environmental Radiation and they in turn keep us up to date on legislative activities that may impact our patients as well as our practice.
We have concentrated on the amendment to article 35 of the New York State Public Health law since about 1994. This year the bill was passed in the Health Committee of the State Assembly but did not come to a vote by the full Assembly. The Senate passes our bill each year.Your support, voiced to your assemblyperson is crucial to pass this bill. Go to http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/ for more information.
At the national level we work on behalf of the profession by supporting the CARE Act (in the House) and the RADCARE bill (in the Senate). Each year we send representatives of the NYSSRS to the RT in DC effort sponsored by the ASRT.
We also actively participate in the ASRT House of Delegates to ensure that position statements and policies that guide the profession are always in the best interests of radiologic technologists.
